LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR TAPES

No technical settings required. Share your tape type, approximate quantity, and what you hope to preserve.
PRESERVATION, WITH OPTIONS
A master to keep. Copies to use.
A preservation master is the file you retain for future use, restoration or editing. A smaller viewing copy makes everyday watching and sharing easy. Families, collectors, filmmakers and organizations can choose the combination that fits their project.
Uncompressed AVI
For analog videotapes. Stores the captured video without video compression, with larger storage requirements.
FFV1 in Matroska/MKV
FFV1 lossless video in a Matroska (.mkv) container reduces file size without discarding captured video data.
Native Digital8/DV
For original digital recordings, an appropriate native workflow delivers .dv files retaining the original digital encoding without re-encoding.
Additional delivery options: Apple ProRes 422 for professional editing and production; MP4 for convenient viewing and sharing. ProRes 422 is not mathematically lossless. File options depend on the source and workflow; optional copies and delivery media are included in your quote as agreed.

EXPERIENCED HANDS. PERSONAL ATTENTION.
Talk directly with the studio doing the work.
Chris Coppolo brings over 35 years of film and video experience. Your tapes are handled in-house, with inspection and any needed cleaning or repair discussed before transfer.
For analog tapes, selected playback decks and time-base correction help recover and stabilize the signal. Equipment includes JVC S-VHS decks, the Datavideo TBC-3000 and professional capture hardware. Original Digital8 recordings use FireWire and DVRescue in the native digital workflow.

BEFORE YOU START
A few useful answers
Do I need to choose a file type now?
No. Tell us about the recordings and how you plan to use them. We’ll explain the choices and confirm suitable files before work begins.
Will a lossless file fix damage in the recording?
Lossless describes how captured video data is stored. It cannot restore detail that was never recorded or guarantee recovery from a damaged tape. Cleaning, repair and restoration options can be discussed separately.
How much will my project cost?
Your quote depends on tape formats, quantity, condition, requested masters and additional copies. Contact us for a project-specific estimate and turnaround. Archival masters are quoted individually. For standard transfers and delivery options, view our current price list.
Can I watch the preservation master on my TV?
Some master files need compatible software and considerable storage. An optional MP4 viewing copy is often the convenient choice for TVs, phones and sharing. Our regular professional transfer service remains a good choice for everyday viewing.
